New Hall Farm Reservoir, Aythorpe Roding.

Eastern Plateau recently supported the construction of a new reservoir at New Hall Farm to help with water management on a specialist potato growing farm.

Water managment is a key issue in the Eastern Plateau, where rainfall is much lower than the average in England, especially in times of climate variation.

The reservoir helps to ensure that crops can be irrigated at key times during the growing cycle.

Peace’s Farm Shop Open very soon-a recent press release

PEARCES OPENS NEW CAFÉ
The destination for the perfect cuppa, tasty treat and leisurely lunch

The Pearce Family is delighted to announce the opening of their new
café on the A10 between the historic market towns of Buntingford and
Puckeridge in Hertfordshire.

Located next to their vibrant and buzzing Farmshop, Pearce’s café with
its striking glass frontage overlooking the beautiful River Rib valley
will offer freshly prepared food cooked on site seven days a week,
catering for breakfast, light snacks and an excellent cup of coffee to
delicious lunches and traditional English afternoon teas.

David Pearce, said: “We have been farming here as a family for 45 years
growing horticultural and arable crops, as well as rearing beef cattle.
In 1982 we started to sell our own fruit and veg from a shed in the
field and such was our success we now have a thriving business providing
good fresh produce and fine foods.  We had been exploring ideas to
diversify for a while and with our stunning location, our passion for
seasonal, quality food and the numerous requests from customers, a café
seemed a natural solution.”

Contemporary in style, the cafe has been built to eco-specification and
has a relaxed atmosphere with light and space from the floor to ceiling
glass and rustic chic with sophisticated cream and greens, sustainable
solid oak beams, tables and chairs.  As well as ample seating inside,
the landscaped patio area overlooking the fields offers the opportunity
to sit out in fine weather.

The kitchen team will cook simple fresh food bursting with seasonal
flavours and the daily specials make use of the quality ingredients from
the farm and shop.  With superb service, dishes will include full
English breakfasts, homemade soups, light snacks and salads as well as
hot casseroles and chef’s dish of the day.  On Sundays, brunch and a
choice of traditional roast lunch will be available.

Customers will also be able to indulge in the luxury of afternoon tea.
Pearce’s Café will offer a choice of handpicked loose leaf teas
including Pearce’s own blend, along with a selection of sandwiches,
assortment of freshly baked cakes and traditional cream teas.  Coffee
lovers too, will be delighted with the coffee, expertly roasted and
blended for that perfect cup.

David Pearce, further explained that the family were also very pleased
that building the café has created employment with 20 new jobs for this
rural location which also enabled them to secure a grant through the
Rural Development Programme for England funded by Defra and the EU and
delivered locally by the Eastern Plateau.

Pearce Farm Shop, Tea Room and Kitchen development

Measure 311, Diversification into non-agricultural activities

Pearce Farm ShaopA C Pearce and Sons is a family farming partnership trading from Hamels Park Farm, nr Buntingford in East Hertfordshire. The farm consists of 1200 acres of arable and livestock farming. 30 years ago the farm expanded to include a “pick your own” soft fruit business and subsequently a substantial farm shop. The project incorporates the development of the existing farm shop  to construct a 90 seat cafe with additional outside seating and the creation of a new kitchen to produce ready meals and food for the cafe from fruit, meat and vegetables produced on the farm.

The Eastern Plateau was delighted to award funding towards building works, kitchen equipment and marketing costs. The new building will be carbon neutral, incorporating rain water harvesting, ground source heat pump and of sustainable timber framed construction. The project will also create a number of new employment opportunities for the rural community.
